The Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation has secured a ten-year extension to host major motorsport events and announced extensive upgrades to the Lusail International Circuit's safety systems.

The Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has finalized a historic ten-year agreement with international motorsport governing bodies, solidifying the nation's position as a premier global hub for elite racing. The contract secures long-term hosting rights for both the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix and the MotoGP season-opener at the Lusail International Circuit. Alongside this landmark deal, the QMMF announced a comprehensive multi-million dollar modernization program for the circuit, focusing on safety technology, spectator facilities, and sustainability infrastructure.

A central focus of the Lusail renovation project is the deployment of cutting-edge track safety and monitoring systems. The circuit will be equipped with high-definition digital flag panels, automated debris detection sensors, and advanced impact-absorbing barrier systems designed to meet the highest safety standards of the FIA and FIM. Additionally, the entire circuit will transition to a state-of-the-art LED floodlighting system, which reduces electricity consumption by forty percent while providing optimal, daylight-equivalent visibility for drivers and high-definition television broadcasts during evening races.

Spectator infrastructure is also set for a massive upgrade, with the construction of a brand-new, climate-controlled grandstand, luxurious VIP hospitality suites, and an expanded fan zone featuring interactive racing simulators and cultural exhibitions. The paddock area will be completely redesigned to accommodate larger team hospitality units and modern media facilities, ensuring a world-class experience for the international racing community. The federation emphasized that the upgrades are designed to make Lusail one of the most spectator-friendly and operationally efficient circuits on the global motorsport calendar.

The QMMF's long-term investment is a key component of Qatar's broader national sports strategy, which aims to diversify the economy, promote tourism, and foster a local culture of athletic excellence. Beyond professional racing, the modernized Lusail circuit will host community cycling events, local track days, and youth karting academies, providing a continuous legacy for the local community. The federation's commitment to hosting world-class motorsport events is expected to drive significant economic growth, attracting tens of thousands of international visitors and generating substantial tourism revenue over the next decade.
